CHAPTER 15. Commission on Uniform State Laws
(a) The Commission on Modernization of State Laws referred to in this chapter as the “Commission” is continued and renamed the Commission on Uniform State Laws.
(b) The Commission shall consist of 5 persons. Four Commissioners shall be appointed by the Governor, and shall serve at the Governor’s pleasure. No more than 2 appointed Commissioners shall reside in any county, and there shall be at least 1 Commissioner from each county. All Commissioners shall hold office until their successors are appointed.
(c) The Director of the Division of Legislative Services shall also be a Commissioner. If the Director is not eligible to be a Commissioner, or declines to serve, the Director may designate an employee of the Division of Legislative Services, who is qualified to be a Commissioner, to serve as a Commissioner.
(d) Any person who is elected to be a life member of the National Conference of Commissioners on Uniform State Laws shall also be a Commissioner. The Commissioner serving pursuant to this subsection shall not be counted as one of the Commissioners appointed pursuant to subsection (b) of this section.
(e) Each of the Commissioners shall be a member of the Bar of this State in good standing.

Laws, c. 255, § 43;The Commissioners shall examine all subjects on which uniformity with the laws of other states is desirable, shall represent this State in the National Conference of Commissioners on Uniform State Laws and, in convention, conference or congress of like commissions of other states, shall consider and draft uniform or model laws to be submitted for the approval and adoption by the several states and this State and shall devise and recommend such courses of action as shall best accomplish the purpose of this chapter. The Commissioners shall report to the Governor, to the General Assembly and to the Legislative Council before the convening of each regular session of the General Assembly.

Laws, c. 483, § 2;The Commissioners may hire personnel and shall be entitled to receive their actual disbursements for expenses in performing the duties of their office. The Commissioners may contribute a reasonable sum toward the expense of holding the National Conference of Commissioners on Uniform State Laws. The amounts needed by the Commission for its operations and its contribution to the National Conference of Commissioners on Uniform State Laws shall be appropriated annually or biennially by the General Assembly.
