CHAPTER 377 - STATE OF DELAWARE - EXECUTIVE DEPARTMENT PROCLAMATION
WHEREAS, on October 11th this year the 165th anniversary of the death of Brigadier General Casimir Pulaski who was mortally wounded in the seige of Savannah, Georgia, will be observed; and
WHEREAS, this event in our Nation's history serves to remind us of the valor and courage of, and the signal service rendered to the American cause for liberty and independence by, this outstanding hero and patriot who came to America from Poland to lend his aid--Brigadier General Casimir Pulaski; and
WHEREAS, the experience of generations has taught us that liberty and freedom are not self-perpetuating, and that we must from time to time fight again to retain them; and
WHEREAS, our Nation is now participating in a great war to preserve for future generations our liberty and independence in the cause for which General Pulaski gave his life; and
WHEREAS, in grateful recognition of the gallant service of this great friend of America and hero of the Revolutionary War, our General Assembly has designated October 11th of each year as "General Pulaski's Memorial. Day",
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Walter W. Bacon, Governor of the State of Delaware, under and by virtue of the authority vested in me by the laws of this State, do proclaim
WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 11TH, 1944, AS
GENERAL PULASKI'S MEMORIAL DAY
and ceremonies in our schools and churches and elsewhere, and I also request all public officials to display the American Flag on public buildings and other suitable places.
IN TESTIMONY WHEREOF, I have set my hand and caused the Great Seal of the State of Delaware to be hereunto affixed at Dover, this third day of October in the year of our Lord one thousand nine hundred and forty-four, and of the independence of the United States of America the one hundred and sixty-ninth.
