AS AMENDED BY HOUSE AMENDMENT NO. I

AN ACT PROPOSING AN AMENDMENT TO THE CONSTITUTION OF THE STATE OF DELAWARE RELATING TO THE ELECTION, TERM, QUALIFICATIONS AND DUTIES OF THE LIEUTENANT GOVERNOR.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF DELAWARE (Two-thirds of all members elected to each House thereof concurring therein):

Section 1. Amend §19, Article III of the Constitution of the State of Delaware by striking the first paragraph thereof and substituting therefor the following new paragraph:

" A Lieutenant- Governor shall be chosen at the same time, In the same manner, for the same term, and subject to the same provisions as the Governor. The Lieutenant. Governor shall possess the same qualifications of eligibility for office as the Governor and shall be a member of the same political party as the Governor. The Lieutenant Governor shall be elected jointly with the Governor on the same ballot in such manner that a single vote shall be cast for both offices. The Lieutenant- governor shall serve as President of the Senate, but shall have no vote unless the Senate be equally divided."

Section 2 The effective date of this Amendment shall be July 1, 1988.
