PROCLAMATION

Whereas, the United Nations Charter was adopted twenty-five years ago on October 24, 1945, in the city of San Francisco; and Whereas, the United States of Americ a, the birthplace of the United Nations, has from the beginning worked with oth er member nations toward the goals of preserving and restoring peace, defending human rights for all races and people s , and promoting economic and social development throughout th e w orld; and Whereas, complex and difficult though the task may be, hope for the future of humanity lie s in free discu ssion and peaceful negotiation of mutual problems and difference s to the end that generations to come may live in a world free from the threat of war; Now, therefore, I, Russell W. Peterson, Governor of the State of Delaware, do hereby proclaim Saturda y, October 24, 1970, as

UNITED NATIONS DAY

in Del aware , and urge all residents of The Fir s t State to participate in app ropriate programs dedicated to understanding and support for the mi ssi on of the United Nations in fostering in ter national justice and order.

IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I, Russell W.
