CHAPTER 374 - STATE OF DELAWARE - EXECUTIVE DEPARTMENT PROCLAMATION
WHEREAS, It is generally recognized that mail has become one of the most important factors in the lives of our American boys and girls who are in the Armed Forces in all parts of the World, engaged in a war to bring Peace and Freedom to our Nation, and
WHEREAS, There has been developed one of the most efficient and far-reaching postal organizations in the history of the World in order to cope with the millions of pieces of mail each day going to and from our American servicemen and women to whom this service is so vitally important, and
WHEREAS, our Military Departments, in conjunction with the Post Office Department, have designated the period September 15 to October 15, 1944, as Christmas Mail Month for those serving overseas, and
WHEREAS, the success of this Christmas mailing program calls for the wholehearted cooperation of the relatives and friends of our servicemen and women,
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Walter W. Bacon, Governor of the State of Delaware, in recognition of the outstanding importance and necessity of this campaign, do hereby proclaim the period September 15 to October 15, 1944, as
CHRISTMAS MAIL MONTH FOR SERVICEMEN AND WOMEN
serving overseas, and call upon the people of Delaware to mail their Christmas packages to service personnel during that period.
IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I, Walter W. Bacon, Governor of the State of Delaware, have hereunto set my hand and caused the Great Seal of said State to be hereunto affixed at Dover this seventh day of September in the year of our Lord one thousand nine hundred and forty-four and of the Independence of the United States of America the one hundred and sixty-ninth.
