CHAPTER 362 - STATE OF DELAWARE - EXECUTIVE DEPARTMENT PROCLAMATION

WHEREAS, the nation's accident death toll since Pearl Harbor has been seven times as great as the death toll to Americans on the battlefront; and

WHEREAS, immediately ahead of us lie the Christmas-New Year holiday seasons, when accident tolls usually soar and accidents become, in effect, our gifts to the enemy because they slow down America's war effort; and

WHEREAS, the accident records of the plants producing vital materials of war in our State are constantly being reduced but the production of these plants is being retarded as the result of off-the-job accidents; and

WHEREAS, the Delaware Safety Council is cooperating with the National Safety Council in their nation-wide campaign to reduce these holiday accident tolls;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Walter W. Bacon, Governor of the State of Delaware, do hereby designate and proclaim the period December 14, 1943-January 4, 1944 for the observance of

THE CHRISTMAS-NEW YEAR SAFETY CAMPAIGN

and call upon each and everyone to enlist in this campaign by personally striving to prevent all accidents, and further, f strongly urge that extreme care be exercised in this regard throughout the corning year.

Bacon, Governor of the State of Delaware, have hereunto set my hand and caused the Great Seal of the said State to be hereunto affixed, at Dover, this tenth day of December, in the year of our Lord one thousand nine hundred and forty-three and of the Independence of. the United States of America, the one hundred and sixty-eighth.
