CHAPTER 355 - STATE OF DELAWARE - EXECUTIVE DEPARTMENT PROCLAMATION
WHEREAS each year, notwithstanding the tendency to recognize the importance of fire prevention through educational activities and fire control- through the vigilance of the fire companies of the various cities and towns, loss sustained by fire reaches staggering heights; and
WHEREAS fire is a friend of the enemy to an appalling degree whenever and wherever it interrupts our production, takes the lives of skilled war workers, destroys irreplaceable materials, and reduces to costly ashes our farms and homes; and
WHEREAS the normal annual fire loss in the forty-eight States exceeds the peak year of enemy bombing destruction over Britain--and our losses are still increasing; and
WHEREAS if we are to insure an early victory on the fighting front, we must control fire--the ever present, national menace, redouble our efforts and vigilance, particularly on the crucial home stretch.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Walter W. Bacon, Governor of the State of Delaware, do hereby designate the week of October 3 to 9, as
FIRE PREVENTION WEEK
and I urge every patriotic citizen, every public authority, all civic bodies and all educators, to emphasize for the benefit of our people the grave dangers attendant upon uncontrolled fire in the home, in industry and in business, and to lend their best efforts to this worthwhile campaign to reduce the losses by fire in this State.
