Delaware General Assembly

CHAPTER 345 - HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

IN REFERENCE TO THE DEATH OF HON. FRANKLIN D. ROOSEVELT, PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES.

WHEREAS, the members of the General Assembly of the State of Delaware have heard with profound shock of the passing of President Franklin D. Roosevelt, President of the United States; and

WHEREAS, at this critical stage of the war in which our country is engaged and the imminent meeting in the United States of representatives of many countries to consider a worldwide structure or organization to insure peace in the world, the loss of our President seems most untimely and may be fraught with tragic consequences to ourselves and to the world; and

WHEREAS, we acknowledge the unique and commanding

position in the world which our late President has attained; and

WHEREAS, we deplore the circumstance which prevents the President from carrying on to completion the successful ending of the war and the building of a structure for peace which we hoped might always endure;

NOW, THEREFORE, be it resolved by the House of Representatives of the 110th General Assembly of the State of Delaware, the Senate of the State of Delaware concurring therein, that the members of the General Assembly of the State of Delaware hereby express their profound sorrow for themselves and for the people of the State of Delaware at the tragic news received this day;

That the passing of President Roosevelt at a time when his wisdom and vast experience are so vitally needed brings us to the realization of this solemn hour in world history when the events of all the future may be vitally influenced by the decisions of the leaders of the allied nations;

That on this tragic occasion we pledge our continued support to the war effort of our country, call for unity, call upon all our people for united and patriotic service and pledge our loyalty to him who is now elevated to the chief command and our devotion to the cause of a permanent peace for which President Roosevelt has labored and in which cause he may have given up his life;

That we extend to the bereaved members of the family of our President our heart-felt sympathy at this tragic loss which has come to them and to the Country;

That the Secretary of State be and he is authorized and directed to forward a copy of this Resolution to the White House, to the President of the United States Senate and to the Speaker of the United States House of Representatives.
